Dear all, We cordially invite all of you to a talk by Prof. Dr. AndreasHüttemann (University of Cologne) on Emergence, Reduction and Non-Reductive Physicalism. The talk will take place tomorrow 30.4., 11:00 am, Room 2G, 2nd floor NIG. The talk is organized by the John Templeton project Pushing the Boundaries: Agency, Evolution and the Dynamic Emergence of Expanding Possibilities. Web: https://www.expandingpossibilities.org/ Abstract: The concept of emergence is often used to characterise macroscopic phenomena that depend (in some way) on microscopic phenomena while being at the same time (in some sense) autonomous. I will explore whether dependence and autonomy can be spelled out coherently.
