The University of Bergen is seeking a motivated and academically strong
candidate for a PhD Research Fellowship in philosophy at the Department
of Philosophy, commencing August 1st 2026 or as agreed upon. The
position is for a fixed-term period of four years.
The position offers a unique opportunity to advance your expertise
within the field, contribute to the advancement of new knowledge, and
participate in a stimulating academic environment. The Department of
Philosophy has about 70 full-time and part-time employees, including
about 10 PhD and postdoctoral positions. The department offers teaching
at the bachelor's, master's and PhD level in philosophy. In addition, it
is responsible for running all the University of Bergen's Examen
philosophicum courses. The research at the department spans a wide area.

The primary objective of the PhD position is to lead to the successful
completion of a doctoral degree (PhD) that qualifies for independent
research and other roles requiring specific competencies.
The position is for a fixed term of four years:
* 2.5 years are allocated to work on the doctoral research project.
* 1 year is dedicated to career-promoting activities such as teaching,
dissemination of research and administrative tasks. A plan for this part
of the position will be developed upon appointment.
* As a PhD fellow, you will be admitted to the Faculty of Humanities'
PhD programme [3]. The programme includes a training component of 30
ECTS, corresponding to six months of the employment period.

The postdoctoral position aims to enable the appointed candidate to
develop a research profile and competencies that qualify them to apply
for a position as associate professor. The successful applicant must, in
collaboration with the Department, develop a career plan outlining the
competencies to be acquired during the postdoctoral period. The duration
of the postdoctoral position is four years, of which 25 per cent of the
time comprises other, career-promoting work such as teaching,
dissemination of research and administrative tasks. A plan for this part

The History of Women Philosophers and Scientists

We are excited to announce the Libori Summer School 2026, dedicated to
the History of Women Philosophers and Scientists. The Summer School
offers an interdisciplinary forum for critical inquiry into women's
intellectual contributions across historical periods, cultural contexts,
and disciplinary boundaries.
The Libori Summer School invites applications from Bachelor's, Master's
and graduate students, as well as post-doctoral researchers interested
in exploring the rich, diverse, and often overlooked histories of women
philosophers and scientists. We particularly welcome contributions that
adopt innovative perspectives, engage with neglected figures or
traditions, or challenge established narratives through
interdisciplinary approaches.
Possible areas of interest include (but are by no means limited to):
* History of philosophy and science
* Economics and political thought
* Ecofeminism and environmental humanities
* History of medicine and health
* Theology, religious thought, and spiritual traditions
* Global and non-Western intellectual histories
* Women writers, literary culture, and philosophy
* Sustainability, ethics, and social responsibility
* Science, technology, and gender
* Intersections of philosophy, science, art, and culture
The Libori Summer School strongly encourages interdisciplinary dialogue,
welcoming submissions that bridge philosophy, history, science studies,
literature, theology, economics, environmental studies, and related
fields. Comparative, cross-cultural, and transhistorical approaches are
especially encouraged.

It should be noted that the Libori Summer School is scheduled to

the earliest opportunity, as this will facilitate the reservation of
hotel accommodation at the earliest opportunity.
Please note that participation is possible both in-person and in a
hybrid format.
3 ECTS credits will be awarded for participation with scientific paper

Expertise ist ein zentrales Thema der theoretischen und praktischen
Philosophie mit zahlreichen konkreten Anwendungsbezügen. Worin besteht
Expertise genau? Inwiefern handelt es sich um Formen von Erkenntnis oder
Kompetenz, inwiefern um einen normativen Status durch Anerkennung
anderer? Inwieweit sollte ein Person ohne Expertise den Aussagen von
Expert:innen epistemische Autorität einräumen und ihnen vertrauen?
Welche gesellschaftliche und politische Rolle spielen Expert:innen und
welche Rolle sollten sie spielen? Welche Rolle spielen soziale
Positionen und Identitäten für die Möglichkeit, Expertise in bestimmten
Themenfeldern zu erlangen oder zu beanspruchen? Wo gibt es
möglicherweise auch Fälle von Expertise, denen in Form aktiven
Nichtwissens die Anerkennung verwehrt wird? Und welche Rolle spielen
technische Innovationen wie LLMs für diese Fragen?
Diese und weitere Fragen stehen im Zentrum der diesjährigen Tagung von
SW*IP Germany, organisiert von Julia Zakkou und David Löwenstein.
_Programm_
Die Tagung beginnt am 12. November um 14:00 mit einer Panel-Diskussion,
an der Franziska Dübgen (Münster), Anna-Maria Eder (Köln), Nadja El
Kassar (Luzern) und Deborah Mühlebach (Berlin) teilnehmen.
Die Tagung endet am selben Tag mit einem Abendvortrag von Eva Schmidt
(Dortmund) von 17:00 bis 18:30 und einem gemeinsamen Abendessen.
Die Panel-Diskussion wird auf deutsch stattfinden; Eva Schmidt hält
ihren Vortrag in englischer Sprache.
Am 13. November findet der Satelliten-Workshop mit drei begutachteten
Vorträgen statt (9:30-13:00).
_Call for Abstracts_
Wir laden herzlich dazu ein, Abstracts auf deutsch oder englisch für
einen Vortrag auf dem Satelliten-Workshop einzureichen, der sich mit
beliebigen Fragen mit Bezug zum Thema Expertise beschäftigen kann.
Die Abstracts sollen maximal 1.000 Wörter umfassen (Literaturverzeichnis
nicht mitgerechnet) und sich für einen Vortrag von 30 Minuten plus 30
Minuten Diskussion eignen.
Einreichungen werden bis zum 1. Juni 2026 angenommen. Zu- und Absagen
versenden wir Anfang Juli.
Die Einreichungen sollen per E-Mail an swip-tagung-2026(a)hhu.de gerichtet
werden und das Abstract anonymisiert in Form eines PDF-Dateianhangs
enthalten. Zudem bitten wir darum, in der E-Mail (nicht im
PDF-Dateianhang) darauf hinzuweisen, ob sich die einsendende Person als

This workshop explores cognition, speech acts and feelings through the
lenses of ecological psychology and phenomenology. Central themes of
investigation include:
* the situatedness of action and cognition
* the affective disclosure of situations
* the evolution and use of language
The international workshop gathers leading researchers of their fields
for in-depth discussion. It invites inquiry into questions such as: _How
do we come to know and inhabit places? What constitutes a situation?
What makes an environment feel safe, threatening, or enabling? _We will
explore how our embeddedness shapes both perception and speech, and how
place informs our knowledge of self and other.

Konferenz: Kulturelle Teilhabe im digitalen Wandel
Vom 18. bis 20. März 2026 findet die Tagung „Kulturelle Teilhabe im
digitalen Wandel - Ethik, Ästhetik und Praxis des Zugangs zu kulturellen
Gütern von Menschen mit Behinderungen" der Kolleg-Forschungsgruppe
„Zugang zu kulturellen Gütern im digitalen Wandel" statt.
Wie verändert die Digitalisierung die kulturelle Teilhabe von Menschen
mit Behinderungen? Eröffnet sie neue Zugänge, Ausdrucksformen und Räume
der Selbstbestimmung - oder entstehen neue Barrieren, Normierungen und
Ausschlüsse? Die Tagung widmet sich diesen Fragen aus ethischer,
ästhetischer und praktischer Perspektive. Sie bringt wissenschaftliche,
künstlerische und aktivistische Wissensformen miteinander ins Gespräch
und schafft Raum für Dialog, Reflexion und gemeinsame Praxis.
Das Programm umfasst Vorträge, künstlerische Beiträge und partizipative
Formate zu Themen wie Universellem Design, inklusiver Gestaltung,
ethischen, rechtlichen und politischen Rahmenbedingungen sowie medien-
und technologiebezogenen Perspektiven. Die Veranstaltung richtet sich an
Forschende, Studierende, Menschen mit Behinderungen, Vertreter:innen aus
Kultur, Politik und Verwaltung sowie an eine interessierte
Öffentlichkeit.

Ergänzend zu ihrer Jahrestagung, die traditionell im Herbst stattfindet,

Zukunftswerkstatt „Neuroethik im Wandel: Herausforderungen und Chancen
für Forschung, Politik und Gesellschaft"

Hintergrund:
Deutschland hat eine starke Position in der ethischen, rechtlichen und
sozialen Forschung (ELSA) zu Neurowissenschaften, nachhaltige Strukturen
für Wissensaustausch, Policy-Transfer, Lehre und Interdisziplinarität
sind allerdings erst im Aufbau. Der Research Hub Neuroethics (RHUNE)
möchte hier als zentraler Netzwerk-Katalysator wirken, um diese Lücken
zu schließen.
Die Veranstaltung richtet sich insbesondere an Early Career Researchers,
bringt aber bewusst auch erfahrene Wissenschaftler:innen sowie
Vertreter:innen aus Praxis und Gesellschaft zusammen. Ziel ist es,
aktuelle neuroethische Entwicklungen zu diskutieren und Impulse für
Forschung, Lehre und Policy zu setzen.

Sonstige (studentische Veranstaltung): Kantsequentialism - A Masterclass
with Douglas Portmore
Douglas W. Portmore defends a new moral theory he calls
Kantsequentialism. On this view, our most fundamental moral duty is to
adopt certain ends--in particular, these four: (a) not manifesting a
lack of recognition respect for any person, (b) promoting the impersonal
good, (c) being partial concerning certain special relationships, and
(d) avoiding the risk of any personal or impersonal disaster. As its
name suggests, Kantsequentialism is a hybrid of utilitarianism and
Kantianism that combines their different strengths. From utilitarianism,
Kantsequentialism takes its act-consequentialism--the idea that whether
an agent ought to perform an act just depends on whether they ought to
prefer the way it would make the world go to all the ways that the
available alternatives would make it go. This allows Kantsequentialism
to accommodate our commonsense views about action and reasons for
action. From Kantianism, Kantsequentialism takes its commitment both to
respecting autonomy and to what W. D. Ross called "the highly personal
character of duty" (1930, 22). This allows Kantsequentialism to
accommodate our commonsense views about morality, including the idea
that, besides the relation of benefactor to beneficiary, there are
several other morally relevant relations, including that of agent to
patient, lover to beloved, promiser to promisee, etc. These relations
are morally relevant despite being relevant only from one's own actual
perspective. In this masterclass, we will take a close look at
Portmore's theory and critically engage with it as a philosophical
proposal.
The masterclass is organized by Benjamin Kiesewetter. It is intended for
PhD, MA, and advanced BA students. Please note that places may be
