Liebe Mitglieder der GAP,
Hier noch einmal ein Hinweis zur aktuellen Ausschreibung für die
Organisation einer GAP-Ringvorlesung (SoSe 25 oder WiSe 25/26):
GAP-Mitglieder, die eine solche Vorlesung planen wollen, sind herzlich
eingeladen, sich bis zum 30.11.2024 für eine Veranstaltung im SoSe 25
oder WiSe 25/26 zu bewerben. Vorschläge sind zu richten an:
info(a)gap-im-netz.de.
Der Vorstand wählt unter allen eingegangenen Vorschlägen einen aus.
Gefördert werden die Reise- und Hotelkosten und ggf. Dinners der
Sprecher:innen bis zu einer Höchstsumme von EUR 2.500. Die
Organisator:innen oder Teams planen ihre Ringvorlesung inhaltlich
selbst: konzeptionelle Arbeit, Auswahl der Sprecher:innen, Streaming,
etc. Die Veranstaltung wird als "GAP-Ringvorlesung" in einer Sonderemail
und im Newsletter der GAP angekündigt. Mitschnitte, um die wir
ausdrücklich bitten, sollen später auf dem GAP-YouTube-Kanal zur
Verfügung gestellt werden.
Alle anderen GAP-Mitglieder sind nicht nur herzlich eingeladen, hybrid
oder in Person, die Vorlesungen zu besuchen. Idealerweise eignen sich
die dortigen Beiträge auch als Grundlage für lokale, thematisch
angegliederte Seminare.

1. Writing a dissertation at the University of Graz in the area of moral
and political philosophy, preferably on issues of intergenerational
justice, climate justice, historical justice, and transitory justice
2. Collaboration in (interdisciplinary) research projects especially at
the interface of philosophy and economics or law
3. Independent teaching of courses and participation in teaching and
examination tasks of the department
4. Student support and supervision
5. Participation in organizational and administrative tasks as well as
in evaluation measures
Your Profile
1. Completed diploma or master's degree in the area of Philosophy
2. Excellent knowledge of written and spoken English
3. Willingness to acquire German language skills
4. Very good MS Office skills
5. Scientific curiosity and interest in working on current research

Dear colleagues,
We are very pleased to invite you to submit papers to our international
symposium: _Responsible AI: Promises, Pitfalls, and Practices _
April 8-10, 2025, Munich
_Organization: Center for Responsible AI Technologies (CReAITech),
Bavarian Academy of Sciences and Humanities_
In recent years, AI technologies have rapidly gained prominence across
sectors like healthcare, finance, and labor market, offering the
potential to transform industries, enhance decision-making, and improve
services. However, alongside these promises come significant ethical,
social, and technical challenges. While AI has been praised for its
capacity to address complex issues and foster innovation, concerns about
bias, transparency, accountability, and fairness are increasingly
urgent. Critics warn that without careful oversight, AI could perpetuate
existing inequalities and create new forms of discrimination. Despite
these ongoing debates, much of the discourse remains speculative,
highlighting the need for deeper empirical and theoretical inquiry into
AI's impacts and the social, ethical and political responsibilities that
should guide its development.
Our symposium provides an opportunity to explore, from social sciences
and humanities perspectives and through interdisciplinary conversations,
what constitutes responsible AI development, application, and
governance. It aims to offer a platform for international researchers to
exchange insights, discuss new approaches, and foster interdisciplinary
collaborations that will enhance and deepen our understanding of what it
means to engage with AI responsibly.
We welcome presentations from a wide range of methodological and
theoretical perspectives, across the social sciences and humanities. We
are particularly interested in work that builds or reflects on research
conducted and interdisciplinary collaboration with researchers in the
computer sciences. Submissions may include, but are not limited to:
* Analyses of social, ethical and political dimensions of AI development
and use practices across various fields of application (e.g., medicine,
industry, labor market, finance, etc.)
* Analyses of the social, political and economic ecosystems in which AI
is currently developed, including big data infrastructures
* Methodological challenges in studying AI in development and practice
(e.g. in integrative, trans-/interdisciplinary, and participatory
settings)
* Complex relations of academic and industry-based research in AI
* Theoretical and conceptual consideration for expanding conceptions of
responsible AI
* Sociotechnical innovations for embedding responsibility into AI
systems
* Analyses specifically focused on questions of social justice,
inclusion and equity in AI development and practice
This interdisciplinary event will take place from 8th to 10th April 2025
at the Carl Friedrich von Siemens Foundation in Munich, Germany.
Please submit your title, abstract (max. 300 words) and a short bio
(max. 150 words) to kathrin.hertle(a)hfph.de until 15th December 2024.
Alongside traditional academic articles, we also consider alternative
ways of communicating research, such as videos, short stories, photo
essays, posters, verse, among others.

The Monist: Rediscovering Carl Stumpf
_The Monist_ invites submissions for an upcoming thematic issue of the
journal on the philosophy of Carl Stumpf.

Textor (King's College London)
Publication date: April 2027
Carl Stumpf (1848-1936) was a central figure of German-speaking
philosophy and psychology at the turn of the twentieth century. He is a
pioneer of Gestalt psychology and the philosophy and psychology of
music. Stumpf was a pupil of Franz Brentano and Hermann Lotze, and he
himself influenced his student Edmund Husserl, as well as psychologists
such as Wolfgang Köhler and Max Wertheimer, who were Stumpf's students
as well.
Stumpf's work is original and contains groundbreaking contributions to a
range of topics. He defended nativism about space by arguing that
perception has multiple contents. This thought plays also an important
role in his analysis of the perception of sound (especially the
perception of chords) and it set Gestaltpsychology on its course. His
theory of feelings contrasts fruitfully with that of James and Brentano.
He worked out a defense of critical realism, a trope ontology, a
non-psychologistic epistemology, a detailed analysis of sensory
contents, an account of the objectivity of concepts and propositions
without abstract objects, and he explored many other specific topics,
such as the origins of music. In addition, he devoted much time to
reflecting on the subject-matter of the different sciences and on how
they should be classified. In parallel to his theoretical
investigations, he also made experimentations in psychology and
musicology. He corresponded with Gottlob Frege, William James, and
Hermann Lotze, among others.
Given the originality of Stumpf's work, it is surprising that it is
neglected in the literature. There is very little engagement with Stumpf
systematically and/or historically. This special issue of _The Monist_
aims to change this situation. Its goal is to unlock the potential of
Stumpf's thought and to introduce his work to a broader philosophical
audience. It welcomes submissions from experts on Stumpf's philosophy
and from experts on philosophers that influenced or were influenced by
Stumpf as well as from philosophers that engage with important themes in
Stumpf from a contemporary perspective.
_Submission Information_
All submissions should be prepared for anonymous review and sent to the
advisory editors: hamid.taieb(a)hu-berlin.de and mark.textor(a)kcl.ac.uk
Manuscripts received from the call will first go through a pre-selection
by the advisory editors. The manuscripts passing it will be sent for
full double-blind review process.
Word limit: 7'000 words, including notes and references. Please follow
the journal's Author Guidelines [4].

(4) VERANSTALTUNGSANKÜNDIGUNG (Darmstadt, 28-29.11.2024)
Workshop: Gibt es eine Philosophie des Rechtsextremismus?
Bei der Erforschung der Kommunikationsstrategien der „Neuen Rechten"
stößt man unweigerlich auf eine verwirrende Erkenntnis: Die Neue Rechte
beansprucht immer wieder die Philosophie für sich. Die (akademische)
Philosophie hingegen schweigt in der Regel dazu. In diesem
interdisziplinären Online-Workshop des BMBF-geförderten Projekts „Meme,
Ideen, Strategien rechtsextremistischer Internetkommunikation" (MISRIK)
am 28. und 29. November 2024 wird der Frage nachgegangen, ob es eine
Philosophie des Rechtsextremismus - als Genitivus Subiectivus wie auch
Obiectivus - überhaupt gibt und wenn ja, in welchem Sinne. Auf welche
philosophischen Autor*innen, Themen, Probleme, Konzepte, Disziplinen
oder Schulen bezieht sich die extreme (neue) Rechte? Um diese Fragen zu
beantworten, werden wir aktuelle Phänomene und Diskurse der Neuen
Rechten im digitalen Raum sowie (historische) Anleihen bei
Philosoph*innen von Carl Schmitt bis Alexander Dugin innerhalb dieser
Szene untersuchen.
