Closure of the year: pending payments and end-of-year gathering consultation

Dear VDP members, I hope this message finds you well. I would like to remind you to send any pending refund requests before the end of the year. This is very important for us to be able to plan next year's budget. Importantly, the finance office policy is that these claims can only be made up to six months after the invoice was issued. Please bear this in mind. I would also like to take this opportunity to ask if you would like to organise an end-of-year gathering. Trans*Formations Workshop 18.11.2025

Liebe alle, es ist uns eine große Freude, euch anlässlich der Trans Awareness Week, die vom 13.11. bis zum 19.11. stattfindet, zur nächsten Veranstaltung der Trans*Formations Reihe am Institut für Philosophie einzuladen. Der „Workshop zu trans Philosophie" wird am 18.11.2025 von 16:45 bis 19:00 im HS 3A, NIG (Universitätsstraße 7) von Sigmond Richli (Universität Zürich) und Dr. Gen Eickers (Universität Osnabrück) gehalten. Wir bedanken uns bei der Vienna Doctoral School of Philosophy [1] (VDP), queer@hochschulen [2] und dem Queer-Referat der ÖH für ihre finanzielle Unterstützung! Abstract:  Trans Philosophie ist ein aufstrebendes Feld innerhalb der zeitgenössischen Philosophie, das in den letzten Jahren insbesondere im angloamerikanischen Raum an Bedeutung gewonnen hat. Sie untersucht die Geschichte, Lebensrealitäten und Wissensformen von trans Personen und eröffnet neue Perspektiven auf zentrale philosophische Fragen zu Identität, Körper, Sprache, Ethik und sozialer Gerechtigkeit. Dabei geht es nicht nur um die Analyse trans-spezifischer Themen, sondern auch um die kritische Erweiterung und Revision philosophischer Konzepte und Methoden selbst. Der Workshop bietet einen Raum für die gemeinsame Auseinandersetzung mit trans Philosophie. Ziel ist es, bestehende theoretische Ansätze sichtbar zu machen sowie zu fragen, welche Themen und Zugänge in der trans Philosophie noch wichtig werden könnten. Der Workshop wird geleitet von Sigmond Richli (Universität Zürich) und Gen Eickers (Universität Osnabrück). Gemeinsam geben die beiden den ersten deutschsprachigen Sammelband zu trans Philosophie heraus, der 2026 beim Metzler Verlag erscheinen wird. Bios: Sigmond Richli arbeitet einerseits zu Hegels Philosophie des Geistes und andererseits zu trans Philosophie. Derzeit forscht und lehrt Sigmond an der Universität Zürich. In seiner gerade abgeschlossenen Dissertation hat Sigmond untersucht, ob aus Hegels Philosophie eine Emotionstheorie abgeleitet werden kann und wenn ja, was das für das Verständnis von Emotionen im Allgemeinen und vor allem auch für Hegels Philosophie bedeutet. Dabei hat Sigmond besonders die Bedeutsamkeit des subjektiven Empfindens anhand körperlicher Aspekte für das Subjekt untersucht. In der trans Philosophie interessiert sich Sigmond unter anderem für die Frage, ob es so etwas wie ein subjektiv-erlebtes Gefühl von trans Sein gibt und inwiefern ein solches konstitutiv für die Bildung der eigenen Identität sein könnte. Sigmond schreibt auch regelmässig essayistisch und literarisch, u.a. für das Magazin Display. Dr. Gen Eickers arbeitet an der Schnittstelle von Philosophie des Geistes und der Emotion, Technikphilosophie, Sozialphilosophie und trans Philosophie. Derzeit forscht und lehrt er an der Universität Osnabrück. Gen untersucht, wie soziale Strukturen und Identitäten Geist, Emotion und Interaktion prägen. Er hat in seiner Monographie „Scripts and Social Cognition [3]" (Routledge, 2025) die erste integrative Theorie zu Skripten in der sozialen Kognition und Interaktion entwickelt. Gens weitere Arbeit beleuchtet zum einen das Zusammenspiel von sozialen Normen, Emotionen, und trans-Sein. Zum anderen untersucht Gen, wie soziale Faktoren Emotionen und deren Wahrnehmung beeinflussen, und was emotionale Ungerechtigkeit ist. Im Zentrum seiner aktuellen Forschung steht, wie sozio-politische Praktiken Affekt und Emotion einsetzen, um Geschlecht zu formen - mit besonderem Fokus auf trans Affekt und Maskulinität und Affekt. Doctoral School students are welcome to participate individually, or we can participate as a Doctoral School. Presentations can also be given in English. Please note that the audience at the Long Night of Research is very diverse, ranging from children to senior citizens with various educational backgrounds, so contributions should be accessible and easy to understand for everyone. GAP Infomail 46/2025

Wir sind um die Verbreitung der unten stehenden Informationen gebeten worden. Wenn Sie selbst einen Beitrag zur GAP-Info-Mail haben, können Sie uns diesen unter Info-Mail-Portal [1] zukommen lassen. Beiträge, die uns bis Freitag, 10 Uhr erreichen, werden per GAP-Info-Mail am darauffolgenden Montag verschickt - Beiträge, die uns danach erreichen, entsprechend eine Woche später. In eigener Sache Natürlich müssen wir die Mitglieder der GAP nicht mehr auf PhilPublica [2] hinweisen. Fast alle werden das gemeinsam von der GAP und der DGPhil betriebene Portal kennen, das in deutschsprachigen Publikumsmedien erschienene Beiträge akademischer Philosoph:innen spiegelt. Als wir PhilPublica vor viereinhalb Jahren ins Leben gerufen haben, hatten wir keinen Überblick darüber, wie vielfältig die Philosophie zu Themen, die auch außerhalb der Akademie von Interesse sind, in den Medien präsent ist. In diesen Tagen ist der 2500. Beitrag erschienen, der, wie es der Zufall will, eines der #erklärt-Videos auf unserem GAP-YouTube Kanal ist: https://youtu.be/-sbDYn35U4o. In dieser Serie, die in Kooperation mit dem vom BMBF geförderten Projekt "Bildersturm" entstanden ist, erklären Philosophinnen zentrale philosophische Themen oder wichtige Schlüsselbegriffe, wie etwa _Glück_, _Wissen_, _psychische Krankheit_, _Fake News_ oder _moralische Wahrnehmung_. Das kleine PhilPublica-Jubiläum nehmen wir zum Anlass, Ihnen für Ihre Mitwirkung zu danken. Dies betrifft insbesondere auch die Sparte „Was ich noch sagen wollte", in der bislang 80 Beiträge erschienen sind. An ein früheres Jubiläum erinnern wir hiermit [3]. It offers an open space to present and discuss the participants' current projects. The colloquium is organized jointly by LMU's Center for Religion and Philosophy, the Chair for Philosophy of Religion (Sebastian Gäb) and the Romano Guardini Chair (Ana Honnacker). For roughly a quarter of a century, the idea of the Anthropocene - the 'age of humankind' - has shaped discourse across the sciences, the humanities, and the arts. Although the concept originated in geoscience, it functions not only as a diagnosis of the planet's current geophysical condition (often used synonymously with the various ecological crises) but has also triggered significant shifts in how concepts such as nature, history, and agency are understood. The term Anthropocene has thus become a catalyst for reflection on the relationship between human and non-human nature and a prompt to reconsider fundamental philosophical categories. While areas such as environmental philosophy, religious studies, and theology have taken up this challenge and explored topics like the role of religious traditions in ecological issues, or proposed alternative anthropologies, the philosophy of religion appears to have been only marginally affected by these developments. The colloquium invites contributions that seek to bring the discourse on the Anthropocene into dialogue with the philosophy of religion and to explore possible reconfigurations, both in terms of subject matter and methodological approach. It shall address questions like: Which concepts and frameworks from the philosophy of religion could enrich or refine our ways of speaking about the Anthropocene? How does, or should, the discourse on the Anthropocene transform the ways we reflect on religion? Should traditional religious cosmologies be revised in light of the Anthropocene? Best regards, Raphael The Vienna Doctoral School of Philosophy is seeking proposals for the sixth edition of its summer school, to take place in 2026. We're currently accepting proposals for organizing and leading our next year's Summer School. Deadline: 10 November 2025 23:59 (CET) Funding: The VDP will cover organizational costs for the conferences, as well as travel expenses for international and local instructors. How to apply? Interested parties should submit a proposal for the upcoming Summer School, which should not exceed 2-3 pages. The proposal should include: 1. Suggested title(s) 2. A description of the summer school 3. Target audience(s) (e.g., late master's students, PhD students, postdocs) 4. Dates 5. Organizing team, including VDP members, postdocs and faculty (ideally up to 4 to 5 members) 6. List of possible instructors 7. Description of the teaching formats (lectures, workshops, group discussions) and daily activities 8. A detailed budget plan (summer schools may charge a fee). This information will help the SSC to try accomodating all possible participants. If you could pre-register soon, thus, it would be very helpful. Please do so if you have trust you can be able to register timely. ---- The faculty public presentation (FöP) is the first mandatory step for all DSPL43 doctoral candidates in the entry phase, following admission to the doctoral programme. It is a prerequisite for the official approval of the dissertation topic and for concluding the doctoral thesis agreement. The FöP must be completed within the first year of study. For the winter semester 2025/26, four presentation dates with four slots each are scheduled: 3 December 2025 – Application deadline: 12 November 2025, 12:00 noon 14 January 2026 – Application deadline: 17 December 2025, 12:00 noon Please submit your complete application on time and as early as possible via the SSC Servicedesk.
