Geburtstages von Prof. Dr. Friedrich Wallner - erschienen Sammelbandes gewidmet ist. Launching of the Feedback Foyer – A Peer Feedback Forum for Work-in-Progress. 10 November

Dear All, The Vienna Doctoral School of Philosophy is launching a new initiative: The Feedback Foyer Peer Feedback for written or oral Work-in-Progress Date: 10 November 2025 Time: 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM Venue: Room 3A NiG The Feedback Foyer aims to foster a culture of peer feedback among early career researchers. It is open to PhD researchers and Advanced Master’s students in Philosophy. The idea is simple: participants can bring a piece of work in progress—written or oral—and receive feedback from peers. In turn, they’ll also offer feedback to others. It’s a chance to the clarity of their ideas, sharpen arguments, and exchange views in an informal setting. Participants Can Expect To: - Learn and practice how to give constructive feedback - Receive input on your text, presentation, or idea - Try out philosophical arguments in front of a friendly audience Note: The Feedback Foyer does not replace expert supervision. Instead, it gives participants the chance to hear how their work comes across to a wider audience of fellow researchers. Workshop Structure Written Text Feedback 30 min: preparing feedback in small groups 15 min: discussing comments with peers Presentation/Brainstorming Feedback 10 min: individual presentations 15 min: oral peer feedback (Structure may vary depending on the number of participants.) It will be a two-day lecture and workshop with Didier Debaise (Université Libre Bruxelles), who is joining us in Vienna in person (but online participation is also possible): Thinking Nature: Didier Debaise - Lecture and Workshop [2] Thursday, October 16: Lecture "From Nature to the Earthbounds: Rethinking the Adventure of the Moderns" 18:00-20:00 (CET), Room 3A (NIG) and online Friday, October 17: Workshop "Geophilosophies" 10:00-16:30 (CET), Room 3A (NIG) and online Lecture "From Nature to the Earthbounds: Rethinking the Adventure of the Moderns" (October 16) Abstract: The Moderns are notably defined by their concept of nature. In this talk, I aim to examine the birth, circulation, and normative power of the concept of nature, as well as its current crisis. How was the idea of nature and a natural order invented? To which events was this idea connected? How was it deployed across all levels of Modern experience to become the focal point of all major issues? Finally, how did nature become a political force that now reveals its limitations within the framework of the "new climatic regime"? These questions will be explored through the lens of several thinkers, primarily Whitehead, Deleuze, Stengers, and Latour. He wrote several books on Whitehead's philosophy (_Un empirisme spéculatif, Le vocabulaire de Whitehead _and _L'appât des possibles_), edited volumes on pragmatism (_Vie et experimentation_), on the history of contemporary metaphysics (_Philosophie des possessions_), and he wrote numerous papers on Bergson, Tarde, Whitehead, Simondon, Deleuze, Latour and Stengers. Bersgon-Lesekreis WS 2025/26

Hallo an alle, dieses Semester möchte ich gerne einen Bergson-Lesekreis anbieten. Gelesen werden Textausschnitte aus verschiedenen Werken, wobei der Schwerpunkt auf Bergsons Wissenschaftskritik und später auf der Deleuze-Rezeption liegt – eine Vorauswahl steht schon, können das aber noch an unser Tempo & Interesse anpassen. Das Ganze soll wöchentlich stattfinden, das erste Mal treffen wir uns am Mittwoch, 15.10., 18:30-20h im Kommunikationsraum der PoWi (NIG, 2. Stock). Liebe Grüße, Laura

In 1810 he published his Theory of Colours (Farbenlehre), a non-classificable work about the nature of colours, and, last but not least, their aesthetical value. Indeed, Goethe was primarly interested into colours for aesthetical reasons, even if the scientifical debate about the nature of light plays a decisive role in his investigations. He famously attacked Newton’s theory about the physical heterogeneity of white light and postulated instead that what makes colours appear, is what he calls the polarity between light and darkness. Through the years, this theory led him to the idea that colours can form complementary couples that are particularly harmonious, i.e. that are able to produce valuable aesthetical effects. In Goethes Auge – Wahrnehmung, Ontologie und Ästhetik der Farbe analyses Goethe’s conceptualization of colours as an autonomous aesthetical mean, which permits a radical new artistical use. This publication shows both the originality and the philosophical importance of Goethe’s way to understand colours. What is at stake is the link between perception, which implies a material point of view, and aesthetical judgement in the sense of Kant and Schiller, which is something more than a mere well-being sensation. Goethe’s approach reveals itself as an original position in the German philosophical landscape, characterized by idealism: his Theory of Colours replaces the human being in the nature and its material dimension, without sacrificing or reducing the spiritual side of human existence. > > Best regards, > Raphael Aybar > -- > MSc. Einladung zum Symposium "Psychoanalyse-Recht-Religion. Zur Bedeutung und Aktualität von Pierre Legendres dogmatischer Anthropologie""

Liebe Kolleg*innen! ich freue mich sehr, euch mitteilen zu können, dass dank der Unterstützung verschiedener Forschungsinstitute der Universität Wien ein interdisziplinäres Symposium zum Thema "Psychoanalyse-Recht-Religion. Zur Bedeutung und Aktualität von Pierre Legendres dogmatischer Anthropologie" stattfindet! Dies ist eine der seltenen Gelegenheiten, sich mit dem faszinierenden Denken des französischen Rechtshistorikers und Psychoanalytikers vertraut zu machen, das im deutschsprachigen Raum bislang noch unzureichend diskutiert wurde.
