Zur Phänomenologie der Musik" (04.04-06.04.25) Sehr geehrte Damen und Herren, vom 04. bis 06. April 2025 findet die philosophische Fachtagung "Musikalische Berührungen. Zur Phänomenologie der Musik" an der Hochschule für Musik und Theater (HMT) in Rostock statt. In einem Dialog von musikphilosophischen und musikwissenschaftlichen Perspektiven geht es im Kern um die Kraft, Form und das Wesen der Musik: Was ist Musik? Wie berührt sie Menschen? Was ist ihre Eigenstruktur? Was für eine Art Gegenstand ist Musik? Wie erklärt sich ihre Eindrücklichkeit und kulturelle Omnipräsenz? Freuen Sie sich auf eine Podiumsdiskussion, sieben Vorträge und einige musikalische Beiträge. Dear all, I am delighted to invite you all to the fourth installment of the Trans*formations talk series at the Department of Philosophy, University of Vienna. The talk series provides insights into recent developments in trans* philosophizing. The next talk, "On the Cass Review: A Philosophy of Science Perspective" will be given by Emelia Stanley, University of Vienna, on March 11, 2025, at 16:30 in HS 2H (NIG, 2nd Floor). Abstract: The Cass Review was a report commissioned by NHS England in 2020 to recommend new practice guidelines in transgender healthcare for children and adolescents, as well as to document problems with the existing gender identity services. Following its release last year, it was cited by both major political parties to justify the wholesale closure of the services, a halt and then ban on the prescription of puberty blockers to under 18s, and the suspension of a pending law to outlaw conversion-therapy. A valuable case study as a piece of scientific research and communication, this presentation examines the scientific Cass Review from a philosophy of science perspective, evaluating its conclusions and methodology with respect to notions of evidential norms, standpoint epistemology, prejudicial attitudes, and the current paradigm for trans* healthcare. Bio: Emelia Stanley is a Philosophy PhD candidate at the University of Vienna. She is pursuing a thesis in the philosophy of logic and mathematics, but writes independently about trans* issues in the UK and abroad from a personal and philosophical perspective. The more details can be found below and on the symposium landing page: https://mindstomovements.carrd.co/ Kind regards, The Organising Committee — From Minds to Movements: Foresight in Cognition and Activism Interdisciplinary graduate conference We are announcing a PhD symposium on Future Thinking on May 8th 2025 - May 10th 2025, in the University of Vienna. The 1st day of the conference will focus on theory, covering empirical and philosophical research on cognition and its interpretations. The 2nd day will focus on various political, social and epistemic issues considered through the lens of empirical research. On the 3rd day, the conference will be centered around future directions of research in cognitive science, and its broader implications, based on the work presented during the first two days. The conference will coincide with the Cognitive Science Hub’s Annual Lecture which will take place in the Großer Festsaal on one of the two nights of the symposium. The participants of the conference will also be invited to attend the lecture and the proceeding reception. Throughout the conference, we will cover the following topics: • Conceptual change • Predictive Processing • Anticipation and Perception • Uncertainty and Reasoning • Activism in Science • Epistemic Trust • Addressing Climate Change • The Erosion of Democracy We welcome submissions from PhD students as well as postdoctoral researchers at early stages of their career. Contributions need not be limited to empirical research and can address the aforementioned issues from broadly philosophical and political perspectives.
