Invitation to Graduate Conference - From Minds to Movements: Foresight in Cognition and Activism (May 8–10, 2025)

Dear Colleagues, We warmly invite you to the graduate conference "From Minds to Movements: Foresight in Cognition and Activism", taking place from May 8 to May 10, 2025, at the University of Vienna. The conference will be held in a hybrid format, allowing both in-person and online participation. Information about registration and how to obtain the Zoom link can be found below. The first two days of the conference will be held at Aula am Campus Hof 1.11, featuring workshops on Conceptual Change and Climate Activism, alongside presentations by PhD and postdoctoral researchers in philosophy and cognitive science. Date: 10/04/2025 Time: 16h45 Venue: New Institute Building (NIG), Universitätsstraße 7, 1010 Wien, HS 3A Abstract: Much philosophical attention has recently been paid to Conceptual Engineering - or, the intentional modification of concepts by philosophers in order to achieve epistemic, ethical, or political ends. The most controversial aspect of conceptual engineering are its aims, but there is also much debate over the mechanism by which the process could even be carried out. In this project, I will propose a mechanism derived from the work of Friedrich Waismann by which intentional conceptual amelioration can - and does - occur. I will then argue that this account of conceptual engineering solves a number of standing problems in the literature, but in doing so, places some key checks on the ambition of conceptual engineering as a project.

Dear all, we are delighted to invite you to the next installment of the APSE talks series, as well as to the accompanying reading circle prior to the talk. The talk will be given by Remco Heesen (LSE). When: Thursday, 10.04.2025, 15:00 - 17:00 Where: HS 3A, NIG (Universitätsstraße 7, 1010 Wien) The Division of Cognitive Labour under Poisson Productivity When a community of academics faces a research problem and multiple methodological approaches to solving it, how much effort should they devote to each approach to maximise their chances of solving the problem and minimise the time to a solution? This problem is known as the division of cognitive labour (DCL). More specifically, Philip Kitcher, Michael Strevens, and Kevin Zollman have asked whether and to what extent academics' expectations of credit for solving the problem can act as an invisible hand to produce an efficient DCL without a need for top-down planning. Here I revisit this question using a modelling framework (key ingredient: academic productivity follows a Poisson distribution) that has more empirical support than Kitcher's, Strevens', and Zollman's, and is also more flexible in that it can be used to address broader questions about credit incentives. The somewhat surprising finding is that in this framework the DCL problem becomes essentially trivial. I'd like to discuss implications for how we think about the model and/or the DCL problem. They change the way we experience our environment, how we construct our interactions with it from perceptions, sensations, desires, and words. While the physical effects are already difficult to grasp in their scope, the transformations in the ways of interacting with the world from our entanglement in it quickly elude any ordering grasp, which is often based on a human self-image as a controlling power. Things look somewhat different when we look at the arts: Here we find seismographic capacities that register and make accessible even seemingly insignificant changes and their effects. The planned platform addresses the challenge of providing a broad insight into current realizations of these capacities. Three nodes serve as a guide for this insight, which aims to place less emphasis on controlling order and more on the richest possible picture of the intricate web of experience: (1) The evidently undeniable nature of climate change brings to light global interdependencies that are a matter of life and death. This creates an obligation to recognize how interconnected we are and how we are called upon to reorganize the world we live in, precisely because it is becoming increasingly incomprehensible and inaccessible without its ongoing destruction. (2) The inevitable return of suppressed nature takes forms that manifest themselves in a complex interplay between external circumstances and inner fantasies, dreams and desires, which stubbornly resists controlling access, but at the same time finds expression, for example, in cultural products. (3) In contemporary literature, we observe a shift toward aesthetic descriptions of extreme climatic conditions that shape narratives in new ways. Instead of traditional narratives driven by subjects, we are witnessing a literature that foregrounds sensuality. This openness to sensory perceptions could be the key to challenging dominant narratives and fostering an interrelational understanding of our experiences. (Post-)doctoral researchers who submit proposals of up to 500 words and a short bio of up to 200 words in a single PDF by May 15, 2025, will have the opportunity to present their projects for discussion in half-hour presentations. In this talk we apply a distant reading approach, and a variety of other quantitative methods, to provide a more reliable and accurate account of Wittgenstein's decline. We focus on a corpus consisting of the metadata of US PhD dissertations in philosophy from 1981 to 2010 (although other kinds of data are also taken into consideration), and we try to relate the topic of the dissertation to the success of the candidate in his/her subsequent academic career. The results of this analysis, corroborated by other evidence, allow us to put forth the more reliable and accurate account just hinted at, and at the same time to suggest – as a contribution to external history of philosophy – a plausible mechanism at the basis of the decline itself, notably a process driven by those who controlled the recruitment policies in the philosophy departments.

This question used to preoccupy philosophers but fell off their agenda due to a stalemate between so-called naturalists, who took the ideal to be natural science, and exceptionalists, who allied social sciences with humanities. I show that both positions commit the error of contrastivism, namely defining social science in contrast to these two traditions, which inevitably ends up caricaturing them. Using recent advances in philosophy, I formulate constructivism about social sciences, a view that denies an essence to this inquiry and grounds it in the needs of communities to understand and improve themselves. Herzliche Einladung zur Buchpräsentation "Kafka als Patient : Stationen in Wien und Kierling" am 28.04.2025 um 18.00 Uhr an der Fachbereichsbibliothek Philosophie und Psychologie https://bibliothek.univie.ac.at/events/008289.html https://bibliothek.univie.ac.at/fb-philosophie-psychologie/files/Einladung_… Der heute weltbekannte Autor Franz Kafka litt bereits früh unter vegetativen Beschwerden und war seit 1917 schwer an Tuberkulose erkrankt. Sein Leidensweg als Patient zog sich über fast sieben Jahre. Dieses Buch zeichnet Kafkas Begegnungen mit den Ärzten und Ärztinnen in Wien nach, die seine letzten Lebenswochen begleiteten. Kafka war ein gesundheits- wie kostenbewusster Patient Franz Kafka unterzog sich im Laufe seines Lebens vielen ärztlichen Untersuchungen, wandte sich dabei aber immer mehr von der Schulmedizin ab. Er legte großen Wert auf eine naturnahe Lebensführung, bevorzugte vegetarische Speisen und bewegte sich viel im Grünen. Zudem kurte er häufig. Für die schwache gesundheitliche Konstitution haben Kafkas Biografen dessen Beziehungen und familiäre Krisen verantwortlich gemacht. Leistungsdruck, eine erfolglose Partnersuche oder materielle Erwartungen der Eltern hatten daran ihren Anteil. Als bei ihm 1917 Lungen-Tbc diagnostiziert wurde, setzte er weiterhin auf den bereits eingeschlagenen Weg, ohne die Krankheit selbst behandeln zu lassen. Erst am Rande der Auszehrung zog er einen Krankenhausaufenthalt in Wien in Betracht, was ihm zuvor immer als zu teuer erschienen war. Nach zehntägigem Aufenthalt in der laryngologisch-rhinologischen Universitätsklinik übersiedelte er in das Sanatorium Hoffmann in Kierling. Kafkas Ärzte in Wien am Ende seines Lebens Im Mittelpunkt dieses Buches stehen Kafkas Begegnungen mit den Ärzten in Wien, die seine letzten Lebenswochen begleiteten. Erstmals in Buchform wurden, soweit möglich, zu diesen Ärzten biografische Hintergrundinformationen ergänzt, zumal sich unter Kafkas Behandlern einige damals namhafte HNO-Ärzte und Internisten befanden. Ihre Lebensgeschichten, aber auch die Darstellung von Kafkas Behandlungen in seinen letzten Lebenswochen bieten einen interessanten Einblick in die Geschichte der Oto-Rhino-Laryngologie in Wien sowie in die Medizin zur Zeit der Ersten Republik, als größtenteils zugewanderte Mediziner aus den peripheren Gebieten der untergegangenen K-.u.-K.- Monarchie in Wien wirkten. A detailed analysis of the conditions and practices which produced and sustain these communities would be illuminating for both the epistemology of social media and the emerging area of neurodiverse epistemology. However, epistemology has only recently begun to theorise about marginalised groups, and many of its foundational principles are ill-suited to this work. In this talk I'll outline a planned project to develop a novel approach to neurodiverse epistemology, which challenges some of the fundamental assumptions of the early, exploratory literature, and lays the groundwork for a participatory methodology which can do real justice to neurodiverse communities. Speaker Bio: Natalie Alana Ashton works on the political and social aspects of epistemology, and is interested in how oppression and power effect political deliberation in the online sphere. In the past she has focused on theoretical issues (exploring how to integrate feminist standpoint theory and hinge epistemology, whether these views should be understood as relativist, and what that means). Her current work is on the practical applications of such views: what they tell us about social media legislation, platform design, and online communities. The workshop is on Amie Thomasson's forthcoming book, Rethinking Metaphysics, which challenges the Quinean approaches to metaphysics that have predominated in the latter half of the 20th and 21st centuries and proposes instead an approach that foregrounds the techniques and methods of conceptual engineering. The workshop will consist of four 75-minute sessions, with each session devoted to a part of Thomasson's book. Each of the sessions will begin with a brief synopsis of the relevant chapters and critical remarks from a commentator, followed by a response from Thomasson. The remaining time will then be devoted to discussion. This notably includes the fundamental principles of geometry and physics. With scientific changes such as non-Euclidean geometry and relativistic physics, there arose the question whether the Kantian a priori ought to be revised in the light of the best current theories or replaced by pragmatic considerations or conventions. This talk will offer a review of the progressive relativization of the Kantian a priori from the Marburg School of neo-Kantianism to Hans Reichenbachs early work. It will then use Paps taxonomy to differentiate among these early relativizing strategies and to contrast them with attempts to relativize the Kantian a priori in contemporary philosophy of science. Short Bio Francesca Biagioli is Associate Professor of History of Philosophy at the University of Turin. Previously, she has been a postdoc at the University of Vienna and at the Zukuftskolleg-University of Konstanz, and a visiting fellow in the Pittsburgh Center for Philosophy of Science. Her research focuses on different traditions within the neo-Kantian movement including Marburg neo-Kantianism, critical realism, the Neo-Friesian School, and on the epistemological views of philosopher-scientists such as Hermann von Helmholtz, Henri Poincaré, Hermann Weyl, Federigo Enriques. Herzliche Einladung zur Buchpräsentation "Ecological Reasonings" am 24.03.2025 um 18h in der Fachbereichsbibliothek Philosophie und Psychologie. https://bibliothek.univie.ac.at/events/008225.html Zum Buch: Welche Rolle hat die "Vernunft" bei der Bewältigung der katastrophalen ökologischen Situation im frühen 21. Jahrhundert? Kann dieses althergebrachte Konzept seine problematische Rolle in der westlichen Epistemologie ablegen und einen neuen Platz und eine neue Funktion im Umgang mit dem Anthropozän finden? In "Ecological Reasonings" argumentiert Kilian Jörg, dass wir die Vernünfte auf unsere Gefahr hin ignorieren. Das Buch dreht sich um die Idee, dass wir "die Vernunft" in die gegenwärtige Bewegung zur Pluralisierung der Schlüsselkonzepte der westlichen Philosophie einbeziehen müssen, um sie zu retten - wo wir früher von der Natur, der Wissenschaft und der Technologie sprachen, sprechen wir heute von Naturen, Wissenschaften und Technologien. In gleicher Weise ist es an der Zeit, die Vernunft als "Vernünfte" neu zu konzeptualisieren - als vielfältigen und multiperspektivischen Reichtum an mehr-als-menschlichen Interaktionen, der eine vitale Alternative zum akademischen Mainstream-Denken schaffen kann. Unter Rückgriff auf ein breites Spektrum theoretischer Traditionen, darunter neuer Materialismus, Ökofeminismus, verkörperte Performance und spekulative Philosophie, verwebt Jörg unzählige Stimmen und Aspekte miteinander, um die reiche Textur seiner*ihrer pluralistischen Vision zu demonstrieren. Date: 20/03/2025 Time: 16h45 Venue: New Institute Building (NIG), Universitätsstraße 7, 1010 Wien, HS 3A Abstract: Strategic science skeptics criticize scientific claims solely to promote non-epistemic (for instance, political and economic) goals. Strategic science skeptics present arguments to support their criticisms of scientific claims. In this paper, I will analyze and debunk a neglected argument exploited by strategic science skeptics: the argument from scientific revolutions (aka the "Galileo gambit"). According to this skeptical argument, strategic science skeptics liken themselves to key figures in scientific revolutions throughout the history of science - in particular, to Galileo Galilei - in order to enhance the credibility of their own claims. In this talk, I will argue that the argument from scientific revolutions is not sound, because at least one of its premises (stating that skeptics are, like Galileo Galilei, revolutionary scientists) is false.

A detailed analysis of the conditions and practices which produced and sustain these communities would be illuminating for both the epistemology of social media and the emerging area of neurodiverse epistemology. However, epistemology has only recently begun to theorise about marginalised groups, and many of its foundational principles are ill-suited to this work. Jenseits von Klimabilanzen und moralischen Vorwürfen unternimmt Kilian Jörg eine letzte Spritztour durch einbetonierte Vorstellungen von »Freiheit«, »Normalität«, »Vernunft« und »Natur«, die den Ökozid als alternativlos erscheinen lassen. The conference will coincide with the Cognitive Science Hub’s Annual Lecture which will take place in the Großer Festsaal on one of the two nights of the symposium. The participants of the conference will also be invited to attend the lecture and the proceeding reception. Instructors: Justin Broackes (Brown), Cathy Mason (CEU), Silvia Caprioglio Panizza (UPCE/Tübingen), Rachael Wiseman (Liverpool) Dates: July 14th-18th, 2025 Deadline for application: March 30th, 2025 Location: Neues Institutsgebäude (NIG), Universitätstrasse 7, 1010 Wien Overview of the Topic Although Iris Murdoch is still best known for her novels, her philosophical work is finally beginning to receive the recognition that it deserves. An Oxford philosopher, educated during the Second World War and later employed there as a lecturer, Murdoch’s philosophy marks a significant departure from the dominant analytic tradition of her place and time: a return to a philosophy deeply attuned to the human condition and to metaphysical thinking. Murdoch’s ideas began to develop with a critique of the prevailing approaches to language and thought, later evolving into a novel conception of ethics. Engaged with both analytic and continental traditions, she proposed vision as the basic category of evaluation and freedom as the ability to see the world rightly, rather than as detachment from it. As opposed to the amoral view of metaphysics, she sought to reanimate the concept of a world that finds meaning through “the Good”. She writes in dialogue with a diverse range of philosophers, including Plato, Kant, Hegel, Schopenhauer, Wittgenstein, Heidegger, French existentialists, and Derrida, among others, and she has had a strong influence on some of today’s best-known philosophers, including Cora Diamond, John McDowell, Martha Nussbaum, and Charles Taylor. The summer school aims to bring together promising young philosophers with some of the leading experts on Murdoch’s philosophical work. Participants will have the chance to engage with her major themes, uncover less-explored aspects of her work, and contribute to the ongoing discussion of her ideas with their own research. Application & Fees We welcome applications from PhD students, postdoctoral researchers and advanced MA students in philosophy and related disciplines. Diese Arbeit dokumentiert die Vertreibungshandlungen an Wiener Gymnasien 1938 und erfasst die Vertriebenen und die Ermordeten namentlich. Die unterschiedlichen Phasen des Erinnerns und Vergessens der Vertreibungsgeschichte in der eigenen Schulöffentlichkeit nach 1945 werden dargestellt. Mit der Analyse der Jahresberichte wird die Auseinandersetzung mit Schulgeschichte, konkret der Umgang mit Erinnerung an die Vertreibungsschicksale am eigenen Schulstandort, thematisiert und reflektiert. *Renate Mercsanits* unterrichtete am Wasagymnasium und an der Radetzkyschule Religion, Englisch und Geschichte und führte dort Gedenkprojekte durch. Dear all, I am delighted to invite you all to the fourth installment of the Trans*formations talk series at the Department of Philosophy, University of Vienna. The talk series provides insights into recent developments in trans* philosophizing. The next talk, "On the Cass Review: A Philosophy of Science Perspective" will be given by Emelia Stanley, University of Vienna, on March 11, 2025, at 16:30 in HS 2H (NIG, 2nd Floor). Abstract: The Cass Review was a report commissioned by NHS England in 2020 to recommend new practice guidelines in transgender healthcare for children and adolescents, as well as to document problems with the existing gender identity services. Following its release last year, it was cited by both major political parties to justify the wholesale closure of the services, a halt and then ban on the prescription of puberty blockers to under 18s, and the suspension of a pending law to outlaw conversion-therapy. A valuable case study as a piece of scientific research and communication, this presentation examines the scientific Cass Review from a philosophy of science perspective, evaluating its conclusions and methodology with respect to notions of evidential norms, standpoint epistemology, prejudicial attitudes, and the current paradigm for trans* healthcare. Bio: Emelia Stanley is a Philosophy PhD candidate at the University of Vienna. She is pursuing a thesis in the philosophy of logic and mathematics, but writes independently about trans* issues in the UK and abroad from a personal and philosophical perspective. Speitel (IVC Fellow) Mathematical Determinacy Philosophy of Science Colloquium The Institute Vienna Circle holds a Philosophy of Science Colloquium with talks by our present fellows. Date: 06/03/2025 Time: 16h45 Venue: New Institute Building (NIG), Universitätsstraße 7, 1010 Wien, HS 3A Abstract: The existence of non-standard models of important mathematical theories, such as first-order Peano-Arithmetic, threatens to undermine the claim of the moderate mathematical realist that non-mysterious access to mathematical structures is possible on the basis of our best mathematical theories. The move to frameworks stronger than FOL to articulate ‘better’ versions of these theories is denied to the moderate realist on the grounds that it merely shifts the indeterminacy ‘one level up’ into the meta-theory by — illegitimately, — assuming determinacy of the notions needed to formulate such logics. In this talk I want to outline the beginnings of a response to the determinacy challenge facing the moderate mathematical realist. I argue that the unique determinability of notions that enable categorical characterizations of important mathematical structures provides grounds for claiming naturalistically acceptable access to these structures, sufficient to resolve the determinacy challenge. I will illustrate the idea by showing how the mathematical realist may achieve arithmetical determinacy, and discuss ways to extend this approach to richer mathematical theories.

Invitation: Trans*formations talk by Emelia Stanley, 11.3.2025

Dear all, I am delighted to invite you all to the fourth installment of the Trans*formations talk series at the Department of Philosophy, University of Vienna. The talk series provides insights into recent developments in trans* philosophizing. The next talk, "On the Cass Review: A Philosophy of Science Perspective" will be given by Emelia Stanley, University of Vienna, on March 11, 2025, at 16:30 in HS 2 (NIG). Abstract: The Cass Review was a report commissioned by NHS England in 2020 to recommend new practice guidelines in transgender healthcare for children and adolescents, as well as to document problems with the existing gender identity services. Following its release last year, it was cited by both major political parties to justify the wholesale closure of the services, a halt and then ban on the prescription of puberty blockers to under 18s, and the suspension of a pending law to outlaw conversion-therapy. A valuable case study as a piece of scientific research and communication, this presentation examines the scientific Cass Review from a philosophy of science perspective, evaluating its conclusions and methodology with respect to notions of evidential norms, standpoint epistemology, prejudicial attitudes, and the current paradigm for trans* healthcare. Bio: Emelia Stanley is a Philosophy PhD candidate at the University of Vienna. She is pursuing a thesis in the philosophy of logic and mathematics, but writes independently about trans* issues in the UK and abroad from a personal and philosophical perspective. Summer School Call for Applications (Deadline: February 15, 2025) 23rd univie: summer school Scientific World Conceptions (USS-SWC) The History and Epistemology of Econometrics Vienna, July 7-11, 2025 https://summerschool-ivc.univie.ac.at/ Course Description Models and their econometric estimation play an increasingly important role in modern economic and political life. From macroeconomic policy and financial regulation to public health and climate policy, models contribute to shaping policies. The generation of ever more data is likely to support the proliferation of models and econometrics. Research resources in academia focus on the theoretical foundations of the underlying model and on the statistical methods of econometrics; much less attention is devoted to the epistemological challenges of the underlying concepts, the normative challenges of the everyday work with econometrics, and the application of its results in policy decisions and evaluation. The objective of this program is to increase attention amongst philosophers of science, academic economists, and empirical economists in policy institutions (eg, central banks) to these issues. The course is also structured around a particular point of view namely, that economics is a science of models and that most of the main features of econometrics relate generally to the role of models in science. Topics will be selected reflecting participants interests and may include: * History of econometrics to frame the philosophical issues to be discussed in the course * The Vienna Circle and econometrics * Values and Ethical Pitfalls in econometric research * Key philosophical issues of how models relate to the world and how they relate to each other * Data: observation, classification, and measurement of economic variables from a modeling point of view * Conceptual issues related to modeling randomness * The identification problem: how possibly, if at all possible, to map descriptive relations onto theoretical variables? * Issues related to optional stopping, search methodologies, and the proper interpretation of results obtained through search * Different approaches to the nature of causation and different strategies of causal inference * The conceptual basis of graphical causal modeling and controlled, natural, and field experiments * The conceptual issues surrounding the problem of model uncertainty, as well as some of the strategies economists use to address it Main Lecturers: Kevin D. Hoover (Duke University) Kevin D. Hoover is Professor of Economics and Philosophy and Senior Fellow of the Center for the History of Political Economy at Duke University. He is the editor of the journal History of Political Economy and a past editor of the Journal of Economic Methodology. His current research addresses causality, causal inference in economics, the history of macroeconomics, philosophical issues related to the microfoundations of macroeconomics, and the engagement with economics of the American pragmatist philosopher Charles. S. Peirce. He is the author of The New Classical Macroeconomics, the Methodology of Empirical Macroeconomics, Causality in Macroeconomics, Applied Intermediate Macroeconomics, as well as many articles in monetary and macroeconomics, the history of economics, the philosophy of economics, and applied econometrics. Jennifer Jhun (Duke University) Jennifer Jhun is an Assistant Professor in the Philosophy Department at Duke University, as well as a Senior Fellow of the Center for the History of Political Economy. She holds a PhD in Philosophy from the University of Pittsburgh. Her main research interests are in the philosophy of science, especially philosophy of economics, but also in issues in other areas, such as psychology and physics. She is currently engaged on a project that investigates antitrust from a historical and philosophy-of-science perspective: Whats the Point of ceteris Paribus? or, How to Understand Supply and Demand Curves. His main research focus is on understanding empirical research practices in science outside the lab from a philosophy of science-in-practice perspective. He is particularly interested in the practices of measurement and modelling and the role of mathematics in social science. The first step in these practices is to make sense of the available data. Visualisations play an important role in this. His current research project Vision and Visualisation is nearing completion with a book manuscript Shaping the Phenomena. The 1st day of the conference will focus on theory, covering empirical and philosophical research on cognition and its interpretations. The 2nd day will focus on various political, social and epistemic issues considered through the lens of empirical research. On the 3rd day, the conference will be centered around future directions of research in cognitive science, and its broader implications, based on the work presented during the first two days. The conference will coincide with the Cognitive Science Hub’s Annual Lecture which will take place in the Großer Festsaal on one of the two nights of the symposium. The participants of the conference will also be invited to attend the lecture and the proceeding reception. Throughout the conference, we will cover the following topics: • Conceptual change • Predictive Processing • Anticipation and Perception • Uncertainty and Reasoning • Activism in Science • Epistemic Trust • Addressing Climate Change • The Erosion of Democracy We welcome submissions from PhD students as well as postdoctoral researchers at early stages of their career. Instructors: Justin Broackes (Brown), Cathy Mason (CEU), Silvia Panizza (UCD/UPSE), Rachael Wiseman (Liverpool) Dates: July 14th-18th, 2025 Deadline for application: March 30th, 2025 Location: Neues Institutsgebäude (NIG), Universitätstrasse 7, 1010 Wien Overview of the Topic Although Iris Murdoch is still best known for her novels, her philosophical work is finally beginning to receive the recognition that it deserves. An Oxford philosopher, educated during the Second World War and later employed there as a lecturer, Murdoch’s philosophy marks a significant departure from the dominant analytic tradition of her place and time: a return to a philosophy deeply attuned to the human condition and to metaphysical thinking. Murdoch’s ideas began to develop with a critique of the prevailing approaches to language and thought, later evolving into a novel conception of ethics. Engaged with both analytic and continental traditions, she proposed vision as the basic category of evaluation and freedom as the ability to see the world rightly, rather than as detachment from it. As opposed to the amoral view of metaphysics, she sought to reanimate the concept of a world that finds meaning through “the Good”. She writes in dialogue with a diverse range of philosophers, including Plato, Kant, Hegel, Schopenhauer, Wittgenstein, Heidegger, French existentialists, and Derrida, among others, and she has had a strong influence on some of today’s best-known philosophers, including Cora Diamond, John McDowell, Martha Nussbaum, and Charles Taylor. The summer school aims to bring together promising young philosophers with some of the leading experts on Murdoch’s philosophical work. Participants will have the chance to engage with her major themes, uncover less-explored aspects of her work, and contribute to the ongoing discussion of her ideas with their own research. Application & Fees We welcome applications from PhD students, postdoctoral researchers and advanced MA students in philosophy and related disciplines.
