CfP Tagung Materialistisch-(queer)feministischen Perspektiven auf Gewalt

Liebe alle, ich darf euch herzlich um eure Einreichungen zu diesem CfP für die Tagung "Materialistisch-(queer)feministische Perspektiven auf Gewalt" (5. bis 7.12.2024) an der Uni Innsbruck bitten. Die Auseinandersetzung mit Gewalt aus einer materialistisch-(queer-)feministischen Perspektive macht deutlich, dass sie in ihren unterschiedlichen Formen mit gesellschaftlichen Strukturen verwoben ist. Aus dieser Perspektive gilt es, Institutionen, ökonomische Zwänge und Bedingungen, Praktiken sowie Wissensformen sichtbar zu machen, die cis-heteronormative, patriarchale, rassistische, postkoloniale, klassistische gesellschaftliche Strukturen normalisieren und auf diese Weise ein Bedingungsgefüge für vielfältige Formen vergeschlechtlichter, sexualisierter und normativer Gewalt hervorbringen. Die Überlegungen zu Kapitalismus als mehrdimensionalem Gewaltverhältnis stellen den Ausgangspunkt für die Tagung dar, um die Komplexität von Gewaltverhältnissen, -strukturen, -handlungen und -diskursen im gegenwärtigen gesellschaftlichen Kontext zu erfassen. Ziel der Tagung ist es, theoretische und empirische Perspektiven auf Kapitalismus als intersektionale Gesellschaftsformation zu entwickeln, die Gewalt strukturell produziert und reproduziert. Wir wollen ausloten, wie aus materialistisch-(queer)feministischer Perspektive Gewalt als Ausbeutung, Gewalt als Verhinderung von Lebenschancen und Sicherheit sowie Gewalt als Normierung konzeptualisiert werden kann, die sich in die Konstitution von vergeschlechtlichten, sexualisierten, rassifizierten und klassierten Subjekten, Körpern und Bevölkerungen einschreibt. Angesichts der multiplen Krisen der Gegenwart wollen wir zudem diskutieren, welche theoretischen und konzeptuellen Werkzeuge erforderlich sind, um autoritären Antifeminismus, steigende Queer- und Transfeindlichkeit sowie Angriffe auf körperliche Selbstbestimmung zu bekämpfen. APSE TALK: Jeremy Butterfield | Emergent Ontology and Structural Realism: Quantities as Objects and Objects as Quantities Applied Philosophy of Science and Epistomology Talk Series A series of talks organized by APSE (Department of Philosophy). More information here: apse.univie.ac.at/news-events/apse-talks/ Date: 07/03/2024 Time: 15h00 Venue: New Institute Building (NIG), Universitätsstraße 7, 1010 Wien, HS 3A Abstract: My current research centers on the question of how to adjudicate an appropriate background logic for axiomatizations of mathematics. Currently, first-order logics are the default background logic. They have the advantage of being simple yet expressive, deductively complete, but has two main disadvantages. The first is that it is not categorical, which means that there are infinitely many non-isomorphic models for e.g., the natural number sequence 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, . . . -- most including strange entities like "non-standard" numbers capable of being greater than all natural numbers, and in which addition and multiplication aren't computable! The second disadvantage is that making first-order logics expressive enough to axiomatize the natural numbers renders it incomplete! In many ways, first-order logics simply are not up to the task. Second-order logics are deductively incomplete, but have the advantage of being categorical, which makes them far more suitable to talk with precision about a mathematical structure. As such, I intend to use the history of model theory as of scientific progress and decision-making with respect to our background theories when the advantages and disadvantages aren't themselves decisive. But first, this history must be generated, and the early history of model theory is what I will focus on for this talk. All are welcome!

CfA: 4th Central European Graduate Conference in Ancient Philosophy

Dear colleagues and students, from 14 to 16 June 2024, the 4th Central European Graduate Conference in Ancient Philosophy will take place at the Humboldt University Berlin. The primary target group of the conference are PhD students inscribed at a central European university who work on ancient Greco-Roman philosophy or its reception in the Arabic tradition.
